NASA lunar program has long-range objective of manned landings on lunar surface and establishment of lunar base for scientific observation; three phases of program, earth satellite, lunar, and planetary; unmanned lunar program and spacecraft types under development Able 5 and Ranger; Surveyor, designed for lunar soft-landing mission using Centaur launch vehicle, will deposit instruments capable of making direct measurements of chemical and physical properties of lunar crystal material.
