Design and construction methods for British naval vessels; design is such that craft can change from any one to another of five military roles in few hours, and is notable for compactness of machinery and equipment of such light weight that speed exceeding 50 knots is achieved by three Proteus gas turbines driving three propellers through V drives; reasons for choice of gas turbines, and development work to render units suitable for marine use.
