London Passenger Transport Board ordered 24 new coaches of entirely new design, being built by Metropolitan Cammell Carriage and Wagon Co; two main features governing design are increased passenger accommodations and improved performance; each train composed of three two-car units; each car has two traction motors, and whole of electric equipment, together with motors, is accommodated under car floor.
