Craft that derive at least partial support from layer of pressurized air between them and surface over which they travel offer wide choice of possible propulsion mechanisms through use of media both above and below surface interface; hydrodynamic efficiency of conventional and novel propulsion mechanisms is presented on comparative basis of thrust loading; limits of compressibility and cavitation are included and rapid design charts presented; machinery weight of various propulsion units is also considered; model and full-scale tests at General Dynamics facilities.
