Major tractor noise sources are exhaust, mechanical, fan, and intake; noise created by combustion, gear and valve, pump, ignition, etc, is treated as mechanical noise; control of exhaust and intake noise performance of various types of farm tractor mufflers, and silencing properties of various types of air cleaners are considered; locations to obtain maximum silencing from air cleaner or muffler may be predicted theoretically by method presented in appendix; to get optimum benefit from materials and space used while retaining maximum engine and vehicle performance entire exhaust or induction system must be considered; applicability to construction equipment.
