Lighting of overpass crossing Tucson's, Ariz, 22nd Street presented several problems; rail-light installation was finally selected; overpass is approximately 2150 ft long, and total railing is therefore about 4300 ft; aluminum rail light is part rail and part luminaire; standard bridge rail was first attached to posts bolted to concrete; posts were extended upward to support rail-light units above bridge rail, with tops of posts specially fabricated to receive ends of rail-light units; total of 430 rail-light units were installed on 868 posts.
