Abstract Under discussions are possible applications of neutral Ba release into the ionosphere for diagnostics of the energy spectrum of suprathermal electrons in the range 2< E <10 eV accelerated by a plasma turbulence in the region of a high-power radio-wave resonance. The intensity of optical emissions and Doppler frequency shift of sonde radio waves induced by the Ba excitation and ionization are evaluated. These measurements may enable one to evaluate the fraction of the pump-wave energy expended on the acceleration of electrons, their amount and effective temperature in the low-energy region, and the threshold energy of the electron acceleration. An additional information can be obtained about the dynamics of the Ba cloud.
