AbstractIn this paper an attempt is made to divide the surface-atmosphere system absorbed solar radiation into atmospheric and surface parts. For this purpose the Nimbus-7 ERB MATRIX Tapes NFOV albedo data have been used for May 1979 – May 1980 and 21 surface station global radiation daily values. A formula has been derived between the atmosphere absorbed fraction of the incoming solar radiation and the satellite measured albedo. This formula gives less atmospheric absorption than the one obtained from Nimbus-3 data. The yearly mean global system albedo is 33 percents, the atmospheric absorption is 28 percents and the surface one is 39 percents. These numbers could change if the albedo values would be corrected or the formula would be improved using more surface stations data.
