Abstract Conditions for confining the heliosphere to a relatively small size of 55(75) AU are discussed. It is suggested that the required additional pressure of 1–2 eV cm−3 (over LISM pressure at infinity) can be provided by a cloud of suprathermal particles (including ACR) trapped within a turbulent stagnating region ahead of the heliosphere and containing a large fraction of the original solar wind energy.
