AbstractIn a structure as indeterminate as a partially inflated balloon it is very difficult to determine either the stress at any given point or a stress pattern over an area. Finite element analysis for this purpose is under development, but this will not likely bear fruit for years. This paper describes a process using desktop computers to convert actual experimental stress data into graphic, visual displays. The results provide valuable insight into the nature of balloon stresses.
