AbstractA brief review of airline route-frequency (RF) planning is given, together with a specific airline example. In RF planning it may be possible to obtain some improvements using the notion of trade-offs. Five local types of trade-offs are described: (1) frequency vs load factor, (2) aircraft range vs technical fuel stops, (3) frequency vs aircraft capacity, (4) non-stop vs one-stop vs multi-stop flights, and (5) direct vs connecting services.
