Abstract The Centre National d'Etudes des Télécommunications will operate a high-frequency backscatter radar, dedicated to ionospheric sounding, at Lannion (Brittany). The mobility of its beam, combined with operation across the HF band, leads to coverage of an extended area of the ionosphere. A possible scheme for data analysis is outlined, the aim being to map in near real time the F2 layer peak parameters within the sounding zone.
