THE Annual Report, 1958–59, of the Aeronautical Research Laboratories of the Australian Department of Supply indicates the diverse nature of its activities. Since the beginning of its operation as a defence facility eleven years ago, the establishment has continued to fulfil the following functions: (i) to carry out aeronautical research applicable to Australia's defence requirements, (ii) to contribute where appropriate to the general defence programme of the British Commonwealth, and (iii) to offer assistance in appropriate fields to Australian industry and national development. The Report gives a comprehensive account of work carried out in the Laboratories and shows to advantage that Britain has benefited from many of these studies.
