THE Société Française Hispano-Suiza, whose factory is situated in Bois-Colombes, outside Paris have, of course, for many years been well known for their water-cooled aero-engines, but during recent years they have undertaken the production of radial type air-cooled engines. Among the most recent of these are the 14-cylinder type 14 Ha and the 5-cylinder 5 Q engines. The first has on test developed 1,120 h.p. at 2,100 r.p.m. and, while complete performance information is not yet available, the geared and supercharged version will develop considerably higher ratings. The 5 Q engine was designed for touring machines and is rated at 150 h.p. though it has developed 180 h.p. officially on test.
