ON 16th January, 1986, a Mooney M20K 4-seater light aircraft fitted with a Porsche PFM 3200 aero engine based on the current normally-aspirated 3.2 litre 911 Carrera unit landed back in Donaueschingen, West Germany, after successfully completing a 100,000km round-the-world flight. This stiff test not only proved the six-cylinder engine's reliability and performance but also showed up the unit's capability to operate as designed in the most varied climatic conditions.
