Provided is a fall prevention device that: comprises a lock mechanism made more simply and cheaply, having excellent durability, and not requiring power; and has a structure whereby the amount of protrusion of a fall prevention plate can be altered. A first link mechanism 40 converts linear motion of a drive slider 24 into swinging motion of a swinging end roller 46 and swings same in conjunction with a second link mechanism 60. An output end roller 67 of the second link mechanism 60 engages using a guide groove 66 in a follow slider 62 fixed to the fall prevention plate 16 and linearly moves the fall prevention plate 16. When the fall prevention plate 16 is in a protrusion-completed state or a storage-completed state, the direction of acting force from a roller contact surface 64 pressing on the swinging end roller 46 is above a straight line connecting the swinging end roller 46 and a swing shaft 44 of a first link lever 43 and acts as a lock. The guide groove 66 is orthogonal or substantially orthogonal to the movement direction of the fall prevention plate 16.
