UnClog: A Drone-based Traffic Congestion Mitigation System UnClog is an invention that is created to help mitigate the problem of traffic congestion due to water accumulation on roads. This accumulation in turn takes place because of and further fuels the existence of potholes and abnormalities on the road. The invention constitutes a dedicated drone that takes images of the road areas which have been historically problematic. These images are sent to the base station where a series of mathematical operations are performed on this data. The image is subjected to computer vision algorithms such as the difference of gaussian to identify and quantify abnormalities on the road. This value is then further used and averaged over a collection to obtain the potholes/ abnormalities per meter square of road area for a particular locality. Once equipped with this value, a comprehensive list of localities in decreasing order of pothole frequency is output. This list can be referenced by local authorities to undertake repair and diversion of route actions to reduce traffic congestion due to accumulation to as large an extent as possible. It has more preventive measures such as filling of these holes can help prevent water accumulation and thus help in the prevention of waterborne diseases and host-based diseases (e.g. dengue, malaria, etc.) UnClog: A Drone-based Traffic Congestion Mitigation System Drawings Figure 1: Drone taking images of uneven roads in one-meter spans.
