Abstract An in-line device (10) for tensioning wire is provided. The in-line device (10) comprises a body (100) having opposed first and second ends (102, 104). The first and second ends (102, 104) define first and second openings (110, 112), respectively. The in-line device (10) further comprises a reel (200) rotatably supported by the body (100). The reel (200) is configured to engage a wire (20) extending through the first and second openings (110, 112) such that rotation of the reel (200) causes the wire (20) to be wound thereon thereby tensioning the wire (20). The in-line device (10) further comprises a pawl (300) pivotally mounted to the body (100) and movable from a first position in which the pawl (300) is engaged with the reel (200) to prevent the reel (200) from unwinding to a second position in which the pawl (300) is disengaged from the reel (200).
