A track traction stud has a head and a shank. The head has an upper surface and a lower surface. The upper surface has a protrusion. The shank has a first end and a second end. The first end of the shank is attached to the lower surface of the head such that the shank extends from the lower surface of the head. At least a portion of the shank is threaded such that the threading on the shank is a tapered thread.
