The invention relates to a pole-expending magneto-hydrodynamic thruster, in particular to the field of magneto-hydrodynamic propulsion. Anodes are expended to increase the content of electrolyte in sea water in a passage of the thruster, thereby increasing thrust. An H-shaped electromagnet which is insulated and closed is mounted in a passage; two anodes are attached to two magnetic pole faces of the H-shaped electromagnet; cathodes corresponding to the anodes are fixed to the inner wall of a pipe; a coil winding of the H-shaped electromagnet is a two-wire symmetric winding; when direct current is introduced to the coil winding, the magnetic pole faces of the H-shaped electromagnet are co-polar or both are N poles or S poles; therefore, two water currents equal in flow direction are generated between the anodes and the cathode ; the flow direction in the pipe can be changed by changing polarity of the direct current provided by the H-shaped electromagnet.
