The invention discloses a codebook model based vehicle overload monitoring method. The method specifically comprises the steps of treating a central aisle of a vehicle as a detecting area; acquiring a video image of the detecting area; selecting one frame video image as the current frame; analyzing whether the aisle area has the image with the face feature through the video; if not, determining that the current vehicle is in an unoverload state; continuously tracking the face feature image through a trained codebook model; if the face feature image is displayed within the preset time threshold and the moving range does not exceed the position threshold, determining that the current vehicle is in the unoverload state; if the more than two face feature images are displayed in the detection area, directly determining whether the face feature image are displayed within the time threshold; if so, determining that the current is overload; if not so, repeating the step of determining.
