The invention relates to a wheel edge speed reducing device for a trailer/semi-trailer and a control method thereof. The wheel edge speed reducing device comprises a stator, a rotor disc, a control mechanism and a driving mechanism, wherein the stator is formed by that a plurality of permanent magnets are uniformly distributed in the circumferential direction of a magnet fixing bracket into an inner ring and an outer ring; the rotor disc is fixedly connected with a wheel half shaft through a flange; the control mechanism consists of a connecting sleeve, a magnetic conductive disc and a gear; the driving mechanism is driven by a motor, a pinion is fixed on an output shaft of the motor, the pinion is meshed with the gear in the control mechanism, and the rotating motion quantity of the motor is output to the magnetic conductive disc; brake torque output by the wheel edge speed reducing device is controlled through controlling the angular displacement quantity of the motor. The wheel edge speed reducing device for the trailer/semi-trailer is simple in structure and great in control performance, overcomes the defect that a traditional wheel edge speed reducing device consumes a large quantity of vehicle-mounted power in the use process, reduces vehicle energy consumption, and is favorable to the large-scale popularization and use of the wheel edge speed reducing device.
