The invention discloses a carwash sand filter, and a method for washing a car through using 2 barrels of water by using the carwash sand filter. The sand filter is divided into an upper portion and a lower portion, the upper portion and the lower portion of the sand filter are mutually connected, the upper portion is a disk-shaped sieve structure, and the lower portion is two intersecting vertically-arranged rectangular supporting portions. The body of the car is divided into three areas in order to carry out cleaning, and a cleaning tool cooperates with the sand filter in a clear water barrel to clean sandstones adhered to sponges or carwash gloves after cleaning of each of the areas, so secondary scratches of the sandstones and other hard objects to the finish of the car are avoided, thereby the service life of the finish of the car is prolonged, and the car body beauty is maintained.
