The invention provides a planet wheel type obstacle surmounting robot. The planet wheel type obstacle surmounting robot comprises a trolley body and three driving sets, wherein the trolley body comprises a front trolley body and a rear trolley body; a first hinging shaft of the front trolley body is hinged to the rear trolley body; each driving set comprises a first supporting beam, a distance sensor, two supporting frames, two power driving devices and two planet wheel sets; each distance sensor is mounted on each supporting frame and is used for measuring the distance from the planet wheel set at the side of the distance sensor to front obstacle; the three driving sets are sequentially arranged from front to back; a supporting beam of the front driving set, the supporting beam of the medium driving set and the supporting beam of the rear driving set are respectively hinged to the trolley body through a front hinging shaft, a medium hinging shaft and a rear hinging shaft; the front hinging shaft, the medium hinging shaft and the rear hinging shaft are vertically arranged. The planet wheel type obstacle surmounting robot has the obvious advantages of being small in size, light in mass, high in load capacity, high in obstacle surmounting capacity, and in particular the capacity of surmounting a turning step obstacle.
