Provided is a forklift that is provided with a variable-capacity hydraulic pump for travel, said pump being driven by an engine, a hydraulic motor that forms a closed circuit between the hydraulic motor and the hydraulic pump for travel and is driven by hydraulic oil discharged from the hydraulic pump for travel, and a drive wheel that is driven by the hydraulic motor. Therein, in order to change the responsiveness of the hydraulic pump for travel corresponding to an operation amount of an accelerator operation unit when an accelerator aperture detected by an accelerator aperture sensor decreases, a set value is obtained by assigning, to a table in which a set value obtained in advance in accordance with the accelerator aperture and a target maximum absorption torque of the hydraulic pump for travel or the vehicle speed of the forklift is defined, the accelerator aperture detected by the accelerator aperture sensor and the target maximum absorption torque of the hydraulic pump for travel, and the accelerator aperture detected by the accelerator aperture sensor is corrected using the acquired set value to obtain a corrected accelerator aperture.
