This hybrid vehicle drive device is provided with: an engine; a rotating machine; a meshing type engaging device that regulates the rotation of the rotating machine; a first mode for travelling using the engine as a power source by receiving a reactive force of the engine with a torque of the rotating machine; and a second mode for travelling using the engine as a power source by receiving the reactive force of the engine with the engaging device. When the engaging device is released from the second mode, a first control is implemented whereby the reactive force of the engine is received by the torque (Tmg) of the rotating machine, and, after the magnitude of the torque of the rotating machine is increased to an upper limit value or more of an estimated engine torque range (Rte), the magnitude of the torque of the rotating machine is decreased. In the first control, the magnitude of a slope (beta1) of the torque of the rotating machine when the magnitude of the torque of the rotating machine is decreased is not more than the magnitude of a slope (alpha) of the engine torque when the engine torque (Te) is decreased by explosion variation in the engine.
