The invention discloses an electro-hydraulic compound brake-by-wire system of an automobile and a control method of the system and belongs to the technical field of brake systems of automobiles. The system comprises four electro-hydraulic compound brakes, a CAN (controller area network) bus and a comprehensive control unit, wherein the electro-hydraulic compound brakes are mounted on wheel edges of the automobile and connected with a comprehensive controller through the CAN bus, and motors of the electro-hydraulic compound brakes are directly connected with wheels and drive hydraulic pumps in hydraulic brake systems. According to the method, the motors drive the hydraulic pumps to produce high-pressure oil required during braking when braking is not performed; when braking is performed, the motors apply opposite moment to the wheels to produce electric braking force, meanwhile, the high-pressure oil acts on hydraulic cylinders to produce hydraulic braking force to make up electric braking lags, the distribution relation of the braking force between electric braking and hydraulic braking is controlled by the comprehensive controller through the CAN bus in real time, if the speed of the automobile is lower than the threshold value or the battery pack SOC (state of charge) is higher than the threshold value, electric brake systems are shut down, and the hydraulic brake systems perform braking separately.
