The invention relates to a driver state recognition system based on steering wheel detection. The recognition system comprises a steering wheel motion sensor, a brain wave detection helmet, a wireless communication interface and a Freescale IMX6 processor, wherein the steering wheel motion sensor is used for detecting motion states of an automotive steering wheel; the brain wave detection helmet is used for detecting brain wave features of a driver; the IMX6 processor is connected with the steering wheel motion sensor, the brain wave detection helmet and the wireless communication interface, and determines whether to start the detective operation of the brain wave detection helmet or not based on the motion states; after the detective operation is started, the current driving state of the driver is determined according to an analysis result of the brain wave features, and is transmitted to the wireless communication interface. Through the recognition system disclosed by the invention, the analysis for the states of the driver can be started based on the judgment for the motion states of the automobile steering wheel, so that the detection efficiency is guaranteed, and besides, unnecessary power consumption of the system is reduced.
