The invention discloses a safe and reliable traction-type passenger elevator and a safety control method thereof. The elevator comprises a shaft and a car arranged in the shaft. A traction motor is arranged on the upper portion in the shaft and provided with a traction wheel. A guide wheel is arranged on the lower portion in the shaft. The elevator further comprises a steel belt and a tensioning safety structure. Car bottom guide wheels are arranged at the bottom of the car. The lower end of the steel belt is fixed to the lower portion of the shaft. The steel belt sequentially winds across the upper surfaces of the car bottom guide wheels, the lower surface of the guide wheel, the upper surface of the traction wheel and the lower surfaces of the car bottom guide wheels. The upper end of the steel belt is fixed to the upper portion of the shaft. A speed sensor is arranged on the car. The tensioning safety structure comprises a telescopic ejector rod and a tensioning wheel used for tensioning the steel belt. One end of the telescopic ejector rod is fixed to the shaft, and the tensioning wheel is arranged at the other end of the telescopic ejector rod through a rotating shaft. Brake discs capable of conducting clamping braking are arranged on the two sides of the guide wheel. A sliding rail structure is arranged between the shaft and the car, and an emergency braking structure is arranged in correspondence with the sliding rail structure. Space is saved, and operation is safe and reliable.
