Systems, devices, and methods for identifying or detecting an obstacle are provided. A passive infrared (PIR) sensor may be coupled to a movable object, such as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). A PIRsensor may detect and identify an obstacle, such as a human, and determine or calculate a distance to the obstacle. Based on the distance from the movable object to the obstacle, one or more flight response measures such as collision avoidance maneuver may be implemented or enforced.
