The invention discloses a satellite-borne unfolding arm with a U-shaped structure and an unfolding method, effectively solves the contradiction between small satellite envelope size and long unfoldingarm length requirement through a U-shaped structure layout mode of crawling on a satellite wall plate, and can realize unfolding arm layout within a range of 5m to 15m on a current mainstream satellite platform. By means of the combined design of a joint assembly, an arm rod assembly and a pressing and releasing device, the requirement for 12 degrees of freedom in total of the folding state poseand the unfolding state pose of the unfolding arm can be met with few hardware configurations, and the optimal design of the system level is achieved; and by constraining the posture of the joint axis, the joint unfolding angle and the joint unfolding sequence, the axes of the moving joints are all in the horizontal direction or the gravity direction, and simulation of the ground zero-gravity environment is conveniently achieved.
