The invention relates to a method for controlling automatic starting of a fuel engine of a hybrid electric vehicle. The method comprises the steps of determining that the hybrid electric vehicle is ina hybrid mode; detecting that the remaining battery capacity of the hybrid electric vehicle is lower than a first preset threshold value; detecting whether a brake signal exists or not; if the brakesignal does not exist, starting the fuel engine automatically; if the brake signal exists, continuously detecting the brake signal until the brake signal is ended; and after it is determined that thebrake signal is ended, starting the fuel engine automatically.
