The invention relates to low voltage battery SOC confirmation and cell balancing. The battery system includes: at least one battery including a plurality of unit batteries; and a hybrid control module, and a differential capacity monitor configured to monitor a differential capacity of the at least one battery; it is determined when the monitored differential capacity of the at least one battery corresponds to a predetermined differential capacity of the at least one battery and a state of charge of the battery is determined in response to determining that the monitored differential capacity corresponds to the predetermined differential capacity.
