An aircraft wing (102, Fig. 2) is provided that includes a leading edge slat (110 ') and a fixed airfoil portion (104). The leading edge slat (110 ') is movable between a stowed position and a deployed position. In the deployed position, the trailing edge of the leading edge slat includes a sealing portion (112) and a non-sealing portion (114). The sealing portion (112) forms a seal with the fixed airfoil portion and the non-sealing portion provides an airflow gap between the leading edge flap and the fixed airfoil portion. The present invention provides substantially the same benefits as a sealed leading edge slat while improving stall control characteristics in local areas around the non-sealed portion.
