The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for controlling an on-board charger for an electric vehicle. An in-vehicle charger and a control method thereof are provided. The vehicle-mounted charger includes a control pilot (CP) receiving module that detects a CP signal, a proximity detection (PD) receiving module that detects a PD signal, and a processor configured to receive the CP signal and the PD signal in a standby state for reserved charging and a complete state of reserved charging. A low-power operation mode and a low-power stop mode are repeatedly executed for a predetermined period of time, the low-power operation mode supplies voltage to the CP reception module and the PD reception module, and the low-power stop mode blocks the supply of voltage to the CP reception module and the PD reception module.
