The invention provides an acceleration control system and method for an electric vehicle. The acceleration control system comprises a motor temperature sensor, a controller and a motor. The motor temperature sensor and the motor are respectively connected with the controller; the motor temperature sensor is used for detecting the current temperature of the motor in real time after the gear switch enters the acceleration mode and sending the current temperature to the controller; the controller is used for comparing the current temperature with a first preset temperature threshold value and a second preset temperature threshold value; if the current temperature is smaller than the first preset temperature threshold value, the preset current limiting value is adjusted to be a first current limiting value; if the current temperature is larger than the first preset temperature threshold value and smaller than the second preset temperature threshold value, the first current limiting value is nonlinearly decreased to a second current limiting value along with temperature rising; if the current temperature is greater than the second preset temperature threshold, stopping driving the motor; wherein the first preset temperature threshold value is smaller than the second preset temperature threshold value, and the preset current limiting value is smaller than the first current limiting value.
