The present invention provides a system for moving an object in an environment, where the system comprises: one or more modular wheels configured to move an object, where the one or more modular wheels comprise: a body configured to attach to the object; a wheel; a driver configured to rotate the wheel; a sensor mounted to the main body; and one or more processing devices configured to control the one or more modular wheels in accordance with signals from the sensors, thereby rotating the wheels and moving the object.
