The invention relates to a radar system (200) for a motor vehicle (1), comprising: at least one directional antenna (300) consisting of a housing (350) comprising an interior space forming a reflective cavity (400) of electromagnetic waves, the interior space comprising a metasurface (500) arranged to transmit the electromagnetic waves in a preferred direction; an electronic unit (900) located outside the housing (350) and at a distance from the housing (350), the electronic unit (900) comprising a main transmitter (931) and a main receiver (932) of electromagnetic waves; and at least one waveguide (700) for propagating electromagnetic waves between the main transmitter (931) and the cavity (400) and between the cavity (400) and the main receiver (932).
