A hybrid electric propulsion system and method are provided. More specifically, the present disclosure relates to a control system for a hybrid electric propulsion system of an aircraft configured to rapidly and automatically take action in response to a rapid electrical load change on a torque source, such as an engine. A method for operating a hybrid electric propulsion system of an aircraft is also provided.
