An idler assembly (200) includes a cylindrical hub (202) defining an axis of rotation (204), a radial direction (206), and a circumferential direction (208). A stepped circumferential surface (210) of the cylindrical hub (202) has a first radially inner face (212) and a radially outer cylindrical face (214). The mounting bore (215) extends radially into the radially outer cylindrical surface (214). The first idler section (300) is attached to the cylindrical hub (202) and includes an at least partially flat body having a first planar link contact surface (302). The cylindrical hub (202) has a first set of metallurgical characteristics that differs from a second set of metallurgical characteristics of the first idler section (300).
