The description is directed to a method for reducing the risk of an aircraft encountering or colliding with an object (e.g., debris) in an airspace characterized by identifying the presence or re-entry of an object in the airspace, determining the location of the object or determining the footprint of re-entry of the debris, and providing the location or footprint to air traffic control personnel or offices. The invention also features a computer-operated online directory of object locations in the atmosphere and/or footprints of objects reentering the atmosphere, as well as algorithms for describing the locations of objects in the atmosphere and/or footprints of objects reentering the atmosphere.
