In order to achieve efficient operation of a cableway (2a) having a plurality of cableway stations (3a, 4a) and a plurality of cableway vehicles (F) which can be moved between the cableway stations (3a, 4a) by means of transport cables, the invention provides that the maximum value of the electrical energy consumption of the cableway (2a) is specified, preferably in the form of a maximum power or maximum energy; an energy determination unit (13a) is provided for determining a variable representative of the power consumption of the cableway (2a); and a cableway control unit (7a) of the cableway (2a) controls or regulates the electrical energy consumption of at least one electrical consumer of the cableway (2a) depending on the determined variable in such a way that a predetermined maximum value of the electrical energy consumption for the cableway (2a) is not exceeded.
