The invention relates to a method for controlling a motorized flap device (1) of a motor vehicle (2), in which a control device (3) is provided for controlling a motorized drive (4) associated with the flap device (1) and a distance sensor (5) coupled to the control device (3) is provided, wherein a sensor signal (S) is detected by means of the distance sensor (5) in order to detect an operator action carried out by an operator (B) of the motor vehicle (2), and wherein the sensor signal (S) is evaluated by means of the control device (3) in an evaluation routine in order to detect a prescribed operator action, and actuating the drive device (4) by means of the control device (3) if the specified operator action is detected. According to the invention, the evaluation routine is carried out in a predetermined charging mode by means of the control device (3) when a predetermined charging criterion is satisfied which represents a charging process of the energy store outside the motor vehicle (2), the evaluation of the sensor signal (S) is modified in the predefined charging mode on the basis of an evaluation according to normal operation.
