The invention discloses an elevator monitoring system and method based on the Internet of Things, and relates to the technical field of elevator monitoring based on the Internet of Things. The method comprises the steps that the elevator operation environment is obtained, the danger degree of an elevator is analyzed according to the elevator operation environment, and environment danger data are obtained; based on the environment danger data, elevator taking crowds are obtained, the elevator danger degree is analyzed according to the elevator taking crowds, and man-made danger data are obtained; on the basis of the man-made danger data, obtaining personal information of the riding user, and analyzing the danger degree of the riding user according to the personal information of the riding user to obtain user danger data; based on the user danger data, elevator operation parameters are obtained, the elevator danger degree is updated in real time according to the elevator operation parameters, and elevator danger data are obtained; and based on the elevator danger data, an elevator danger threshold value is set, and when the elevator danger degree exceeds the elevator danger threshold value, information is sent to a user side to prompt a passenger. The practicability of elevator monitoring based on the Internet of Things is improved.
