The invention provides an automatic parking system and an automatic parking method. The automatic parking system includes: an outside world recognition unit that acquires outside world recognition data of a moving body; a target parking detection unit that detects a target parking position on the basis of the outside identification data; a control unit that calculates a travel trajectory of the moving body moving to the target parking position and performs automatic parking control; a vacant space detection unit that detects a vacant space around the moving body and the target parking position on the basis of the outside identification data; and a space type determination unit that determines the type of the vacant space. When the vacant space is determined to be a common space, the control unit generates a travel/parking trajectory including the vacant space.
