A method for vehicle mass estimation includes: setting a vehicle mass value as an initial value and setting a driving resistance value as an initial value; receiving at least a longitudinal acceleration value, a drive/brake torque on each axle/wheel, and a wheel angular velocity value; and estimating a drive resistance value based on the vehicle mass value and the wheel angular velocity value. The method further includes setting the drive resistance value to an estimated drive resistance value and determining a fuel level value of the associated vehicle and a seat occupancy value of the at least one seat. The method further includes estimating a vehicle load value using the fuel level value and the seat occupancy value, and setting at least one of a vehicle center of gravity value and a vehicle moment of inertia value based on the vehicle load value.
