A computer-implemented method for electric vehicle charging access control includes detecting, by a charging station for an electric vehicle, a presence of an electric vehicle available to establish a wireless data connection, establishing a wireless data connection with the electric vehicle, receiving identification data identifying the electric vehicle via the wireless data connection, and transmitting the identification data to the charging station. And authorizing charging of the electric vehicle in response to determining, based on the identification data, that the electric vehicle is registered as eligible to use the charging station.
