The invention relates to a method (1a, 1b, 1c) for actuating a friction brake system (20) of an electrically drivable vehicle (100a), in particular a commercial vehicle (100b), having an electric drive (21) that can be used for regenerative braking (NB), comprising the following steps: ascertaining (S1) whether braking (S6) by means of the friction brake system (20) is required for brake pad maintenance; the invention relates to a method for operating a friction brake system (20), in which a brake parameter (BP) is determined (S4) and braking (S6) by means of the friction brake system (20) is caused in accordance with the brake parameter (BP), drive information (AI) relating to the electric drive (21) is ascertained (S4), and the brake parameter (BP) and the drive parameter (AP) are modified (S5) as a function of the drive information (AI) in order to achieve brake pad maintenance, the drive parameter (AP) causing an operation (S7) of the electric drive (21) as a function of the braking (S6).
