Aspects of the present invention relate to a control system (100, 200) for a vehicle suspension system of a vehicle. The vehicle suspension system includes a plurality of connected subsystems (302, 304, 306). The control system includes one or more controllers (110). The control system is configured to: determine whether a first subsystem (302) of the plurality of connected subsystems has entered a fault state (312-2), where the fault state is an abnormal operating state (402); a compensated operating state (314-2, 316-2) of a further subsystem of the plurality of connected subsystems is determined in accordance with a determination that the first subsystem has entered a fault state, where the first subsystem is operated in the fault state while the further subsystem is not operated in the compensated operating state, when compared to a vehicle suspension system operated in a case where the first subsystem is operated in the fault state while the further subsystem is not operated in the compensated operating state (314-2, 316-2). If the first subsystem operates in the fault state, the further subsystem operates in a compensation operating state such that the vehicle suspension system operates in a higher vehicle stability mode (404); and outputting a compensation operating signal (155) to the further subsystem in accordance with the determined compensation operating state to cause the further subsystem to operate in the compensation operating state if the first subsystem operates in the fault state (406).
