The invention relates to a method for charging a high-voltage battery (2), comprising the following steps: providing a high-voltage battery (2) having a battery nominal voltage (Ubat); providing a charging station (3) having a charging nominal voltage (Uc), the charging nominal voltage being less than the battery nominal voltage; the protective conductor terminal on the charging station side is connected with the protective conductor terminal (5) on the battery side, so that a common protective conductor (PE) is formed between the protective conductor terminal and the protective conductor terminal. The charging station (3) provides half of the charging nominal voltage at a first high-voltage potential (HV +) on the charging station side and half of the charging nominal voltage at a second high-voltage potential (HV-) on the charging station side symmetrically with respect to the protective conductor; leveling the voltage between the first high-voltage potential (HVP) on the cell side and the protective conductor (PE) to half the charging nominal voltage (Uc) by means of the controlled discharge of the discharge current (Id); a first high-voltage potential (HV +) on the charging station side is electrically connected to the first high-voltage potential (HVP) on the battery side, and a second high-voltage potential (HV-) on the charging station side is electrically connected to the second high-voltage potential (HVN) on the battery side, the voltage between the second high-voltage potential (HV-) on the charging station side and the protective conductor (PE) being boosted; and controlling the bleeder current by means of a resistance regulator. The invention also relates to a device (1) for charging a high-voltage battery (2).
